The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance (WISTAX) claims to be a non-ideological and independent government-research organization that aims, according to its website, to “improve Wisconsin government through citizen education.” WISTAX is a go-to source for the media on state government and it is almost always identified as the “non-partisan Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.”
The reality is the WISTAX board is full of conservative ideologues -- past GOP leaders, small-government and corporate interest advocates, GOP campaign operatives -- who push a conservative agenda and fund conservative candidates.

WISTAX wants the media and people of Wisconsin to believe it is simply a public education outfit that publishes non-ideological, independent research and materials.
Using the facade of independence from ideology, the conservative activists and corporate interests behind WISTAX can then push their agenda of less taxes on corporations and the wealthy, less public investment, and less money for Wisconsin's public schools.

The makeup of an organization's board of directors is an immediate insight into the ideology of the organization. Progressive organizations have progressive directors; conservative organizations have conservative directors.
The directors of WISTAX are nearly all identified conservatives -- past GOP officials, well-known conservative activists and corporate CEOs.

The people behind WISTAX are active political givers and they give almost exclusively to Republicans and conseratives. Following the money from WISTAX leads right to the right-wing and a pro-corporate, anti-public investment agenda.
